Promising ELMS debut at Le Castellet

Thunderhead Carlin Racing's #45 Dallara P217 powered to an 11th place finish the opening round of the 2019 European Le Mans Series as the team rounded off a solid week of activity at Circuit Paul Ricard, Le Castellet.

Following an impressive top 10 qualifying performance from experienced teammate Olivier Pla, Jack Manchester elected to take the opening stint in the 4 Hours of Le Castellet, leading the charge into Turn 1 from 9th on the grid.

Jack eclipsed his pre-race testing lap count in an impressive display of consistency, keeping the team in contention with a clean double stint before handing over to Ben Barnicoat well into the second hour.

Despite teething issues limiting the team's competitiveness, Thunderhead Carlin Racing executed a well-considered strategy to secure 11th at the chequered flag with Olivier Pla at the wheel – just missing out on a top 10 result.

"It was a hard but really fun race to be honest!"

Looking back on a solid start to the 2019 season, Jack said;

"I feel like we got the most out of the car today. I tried to keep it nice and clean during the race start which was the main objective. I stayed with the guys in the pack however in the dirty air the tyres struggled a little so from that moment I started to manage them and concentrate on my own race.

It was a hard but really fun race to be honest! This has been a big learning experience for all of us and one we’ve enjoyed. I believe we’ve learnt a lot as a team and we’ll continue to do our best as we head towards Monza."

Buoyed by this strong start to their debut ELMS campaign, Thunderhead Carlin racing looks ahead to Round 2 (Monza) in 4 weeks' time where Harry Tincknell will resume driving duties alongside Jack and Ben.
