Thunderhead Carlin Racing display impressive pace at Monza

Jack Manchester hailed the team’s progress as a ‘huge step forward’ after another solid European Le Mans Series weekend. Having started the 4 Hours of Monza at the wheel of car #45 for the opening driving stints, Jack and the team went on to finish 11th overall.

All week throughout official testing and practice sessions, Jack, Harry and Ben showcased an upturn in pace with regular top six lap times, reflecting the hard work of Thunderhead Carlin Racing since their ELMS debut just four weeks ago.

"My stints had everything; traffic, fuel saving, tyre management…"

Jack was particularly satisfied with the experience gained at Monza, saying:

“I really enjoyed my time in the car this weekend. Although the race didn’t quite come together for us in the end, it’s clear we’re able to be competitive with series veterans given the chance.

My stints had everything; traffic, fuel saving, tyre management, a couple of pit stops, full-course yellows, overtaking… a great experience all round. The first few corners are always tricky at Monza but I managed to come out unscathed, a few places up from where we started.

We have two months until the next round in Barcelona. Plenty of time to regroup, train, work on the car, test, and get some laps in the simulator. It’s another track I’ve had plenty of experience with – looking forward to it already!”

The 2019 ELMS season continues with Round 3 at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, 19th-20th July 2019.
